Workshop Programme March-June 2008 - 01/02/2008
Saturday 18 April £25
Print and Pattern on Fabric or Paper Sarah Reason Jones
Using a wide range of dyes and paints from acrylics to highly pigmented specialist paints we will print patterns and designs onto different types of paper and fabric. You will use your own rubber stamps or cut stamps from found objects, erasers, corks – even the humble potato. Use your pieces as a base for collage or further embellishment with machine or hand embroidery. The course will also cover monoprinting which will allow you to create unique prints. Once you learn some of the many techniques of how to decorate paper or fabric there will be no stopping you!

Saturday 26 April £35 Introduction to Batik Wendy Evans
An introduction to batik with expert tutor Wendy Evans, a member of the Batik Guild, for beginners or those with some experience. Enjoy a day of creativity discovering the art of batik; an exciting process that uses hot liquid wax and dyes on cotton cloth. You will have the chance to experiment using various traditional and contemporary tools and techniques. The skills learned will be used in one or two pictorial or abstract pieces of work. This workshop is a chance to work with an internationally known batik artist and Wendy’s work can be seen at www.wendyevans.com

Cobweb Felt for Garments Lesley Crawley
A chance to make the lightest of all felt for garments and wraps. Lesley will show you how to make ‘cobweb’ felt which is fibrous in character using linen, silk and other fibres along with wool fibres. This is an advanced technique that is not as easy as it looks but under Lesley’s guidance you will be able to make your pieces into seamless clothing such as jackets by joining and thickening areas to add strength.

Embellish into Stitch Sarah Reason Jones
The ‘must have’ machine of the moment is an embellisher and we know many of you have succumbed to the seductive surfaces that you can create for backgrounds to further embroidery with this wonderful piece of equipment. Alternatively you can create stand alone pieces that give your design skills free rein.
Using a variety of materials Sarah will help you explore the machine’s full potential and take your creativity to a new level.

Saturday 31 May £25 Freestyle Peyote Dian Smith
Freeform Peyote Stitch is incredibly simple, fun and quick to do. As ‘freeform’implies – there really are no rules and Dian will show you how to produce some wonderful examples. Break free and enjoy the process of designing as your piece develops. Anything goes!

Felt Jewellery Lynda Cash
Experienced local textile artist Linda Cash has experimented with felt and beads to make unusual jewellery – something a little beyond the usual. You will be encouraged to design a ‘one-off’ necklace or bracelet combining handfelting techniques with seed beads and other beads of your choice.

Artists Books Lesley Crawley
Learn how to use image transfer and printing techniques to create your own original artists books. A very special workshop that will introduce you to a new means of expression. Techniques can also be used in paper collage, sketchbook work, scrapbook and journal projects.

Creative Silk Papers Sarah Reason Jones
Your chance to come and learn about all the different fibres that can be used to make paper. We’ll make silk papers using silk fibre tops, carrier rods , throwster’s waste etc which all make stunning paper. These papers will inspire you for collage, cards, covering books etc or for future embellishment by hand or machine stitching.

Friday 27 June & Saturday 28 June £60
Crewel and Unusual Fay Maxwell
Nationally known textile artist Fay Maxwell joins us for a two day workshop programme. On day one Fay will demonstrate new ways of combining crewel work with an array of Indian edging stitches and Shisha, introducing silk and wool, to produce beautiful and decorative finishes. Day two will use these techniques to produce ‘Cobweb and Cartwheel Purses’ – with applied small circles, decorated with couronnes, shisha, cartwheel and spider’s web stitching. Finished with quilting, you’ll create a delicate silk purse, complete with cord strap.
Picture Framing at The Fibre Factory - 26/01/2008
At last I am up and running with the framing at the shop. We have access to over 2000 frames on a 5 day turnover for most commissions. Covering all aspects of bespoke work, if you're taking a trip to Tenby and need an old frame repaired or replaced or have some work that needs framing, come on down and get framed!!!! 15% discount on all first orders for February.....wow !
The workshops are taking shape, we hope to begin in March, the mail lists are going out by the end of January.
